How LetX Generates LaTeX Template Previews
LetX stores template source, metadata, a compiled PDF, and a first-page image. Additional checks flag common preview problems.

LetX stores source, metadata, a compiled PDF, and a first-page image for each published template. The preview lets a user inspect the document before creating a project.
What the pipeline checks
The LetX repository’s template tooling starts from a fresh compile, produces the PDF, renders the first page into preview.png, and verifies that the required metadata and assets exist before upload. The published template record stores separate URLs for the thumbnail, full PDF preview, and source archive.
The first-page image supports browsing and image-rich structured data. The full PDF supports closer inspection. The source archive becomes the new project only after a user chooses the template.
Checks beyond compilation
A document can compile and still be a poor template. Its first page may be empty, typography may be broken, examples may contain fake claims, metadata may misdescribe the file, or placeholder sections may be unusable. LetX’s current scripts include visual-density and quality gates intended to surface those cases for review.
Compilation checks whether the source builds. Preview and content review check whether the rendered result is usable.
Representative published previews
The Shahriar Labs template showcase displays actual thumbnail assets from the LetX catalogue, including a university thesis, annual financial statement, software architecture document, API reference, Beamer pitch deck, and medical intake form. None of those images is a promotional mockup created for the article.
What users should verify
A community university template is not automatically an official university artifact. A journal template may change after a publisher update. Before submission, confirm the current class, margins, title-page wording, bibliography style, and licence with the receiving institution.
LetX reports more than 1,000 compile-tested templates as of its dated statistics page. That number describes the catalogue; it does not imply institutional endorsement of every template.
